Homebound seniors find help with partnership between Family Pride of NEO & the Lake Co. ADAMHS Board
Lake County, OH: Family Pride of Northeast Ohio alongside essential organizations including the Lake County Council on Aging, Adult Protective Services (APS) and the Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) Board to cultivate a community-based, senior-focused mental health service that fosters prompt recognition and treatment of mental health and substance-use needs of seniors throughout Lake County. This program focuses on reducing the many barriers to the health and emotional well-being of seniors throughout Lake County through case management and therapy services.
As a community-based behavioral health organization, Family Pride’s in-home and community service model takes away an older adult’s mobility and/or transportation barrier, as their team can bring needed mental health services to them. “By offering services in their home, it enables our team to observe, first hand, the strengths and challenges that our clients’ have in their lives”, stated Angi Daugherty, Executive Director of Family Pride. These challenges may be safety, basic needs, healthcare access, as well as natural and community supports systems like family, friends, and local organizations.
It is Family Pride’s goal to collaboratively work with the client, to develop a treatment plan that builds upon their strengths, accesses community and natural resources, and addresses daily coping skills to improve their overall emotional and inevitable, physical well-being. “Although the Lake ADAMHS Board can provide free transportation for in-office counseling, we understand this may still be a barrier. Our goal is to provide access to behavioral healthcare to anyone who needs it and we believe in-home therapies, like this, can be an important and effective tool in helping improve the quality of life for our older citizens”, added Kim Fraser Executive Director of Lake County ADAMHS Board.
Family Pride also partners with the Geauga County’s Senior Services Program running a similar program. Their therapists have been able to meet with older adults and help them see the need for resources and services they once refused in their previous meeting with Geauga County Adult Protective Services. With the $60,000 dollars funded by the Lake ADAMHS Board, Family Pride will work collaboratively with Council on Aging and Adult Protective Services to streamline an effective referral process for older adults in need of in-home mental health care here in Lake County also.
